Over the years Tubecon has added various materials to our product offering to become one of the leading steel suppliers in South Africa. The latest addition being that of 3CR12 Stainless Steel tubes as well as open sections which is now manufactured at our Pretoria branch and supplied to companies across Southern Africa and internationally.
3CR12 stainless steel, also known as ferritic stainless steel type 1.4003, was developed as a superior substitute to coated mild steel, corrosion resistant Cor-ten material and to aluminium, with a life span of almost 250 times that of unpainted mild steel in certain environments.
With 3CR12 (1.4003) being weldable through conventional methods it has proven an attractive material for our customers wishing to replace mild steel for something more corrosion and wear resistant, yet cost effective. The Rolling of 3CR12 Welded Steel Open Sections and Profiles in both thick and thin wall-thicknesses has thus become a common product at Tubecon.
3CR12 pipe does however have a drawback as it is not as corrosion resistant as higher Chromium containing materials such as CS304 stainless steel and CS430 stainless steel. The use of 3CR12 stainless steel pipe should thus be where aesthetic appearances are not as important.
Tubecon is able to roll form welded structural sections from 3CR12 (1.4003) material with thicknesses of up to 6mm. We can roll round, square and rectangular tubes as well as non-welded sections such as lip channels, angle irons and flat bar from the 3CR12 material.
Tubecon is able to manufacture not only the thinner gauge tubing, but also perfected the roll forming of heavy walled 3CR12 stainless steel welded tubes, hollow sections and open sections.
3CR12, also serves as a cost effective and superior alternative to hot dip galvanised steel, making it suitable for various applications in different industries like mining, material handling, transportations, only to name a few. It is also a very good choice for horse and cattle barns, stables and stalls.
